Make it matter in daily life
Recent years have seen an upsurge in the interest in psychedelics and psychedelic therapy. Acclaimed universities, like Imperial College in London and JohnHopkins in Baltimore, are running ambitious research programs, focusing on the healing potential of psychedelics on complex psychological disorders such as treatment resistant depression, PTSD and anxiety. Performance-oriented environments in Silicon Valley and elsewhere, are exploring the benefits of micro-dosing; taking very small doses of psychoactive substances to enhance cognition, mood and
creativity.
While therapeutic protocols are showing remarkable effects, and several places around the world are decriminalizing psychedelics, treatment is still not readily available to the public. Furthermore, the knowledge of psychedelics, among the broad population of psychologists and other therapists, is limited and widely misunderstood. This means that curious (or desperate) explorers into non-ordinary states of consciousness are often left to find their own way around psychedelic experiences.
Based on my own personal work with the Amazonian plant-medicine Ayahuasca, I have taken an interest in working professionally and therapeutically with the integration process following psychedelic experiences. I stay updated on available knowledge from both indigenous traditions and modern scientific research, to be able to meet clients on an informed basis, and with a non-judgmental attitude.
Psychedelic Integration session (60 minutes)
I believe that the most important value of psychedelic experiences and insight should be measured by how they enable you to live the life that you are longing for. Some are lucky to achieve instant breakthroughs. Others are less fortunate and may miss out on positive benefits because the experience is not supported by proper integration work. Genuine therapeutic work to complement the effect of a psychedelic experience can help create transformative and lasting effects in life. Most problematic of all, some people have overwhelming and traumatizing trips, that leave them destabilized and worse off than before the experience.
An integration session always takes as a starting point your specific situation and needs. Sometimes focus can be on digesting and making sense of profound insights or feelings of spiritual awakening. You may need to work through psychological material that has emerged, and understand how this can be meaningfully processed and integrated in your daily life. Or contemplate potentially life changing decisions that seem necessary to consider after your journey. Especially if the experience has been confusing or even traumatizing, bodywork may be a valuable contribution to coming back to a grounded and safe sense of being in the world.
